LIS 6409 Intro to Library Admin

For my Project Proposal assignment, I decided to draft a public library proposal for a Charlie Cart. This would allow for nutritional education programs and hands on cooking instruction for the public in an effort to battle food insecurity in our community. My proposal assignment served as a draft for a final library proposal for a Charlie Cart that two librarians in my system were interested in. The three of us finalized the proposal together.

I observed two programs with community partners in public libraries. The first was the food bank at the DeSoto Public Library with their partnerships with All Faiths Food Bank. The second was at the Gulf Gate Library with Forty Carrots, a partners in play program that guides parents through their child's development. See the report below.

I.d. Students demonstrate leadership skills and innovation in a diverse and global environment.

LIS 6445 Seminar in Public Libraries

I reported on a budgetary meeting of the Sarasota County Government. Through my observation of the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners, I learned of the tough decisions community leaders must make when it comes to funding services such police, stormwater projects, and library construction.

Co-Curricular Activity: Evacuation Center Registration Leader

For huricanes Idalia and Milton, I served as a Registration Leader at Heron Creek Middle School in North Port, FL. I was responsible for registering evacuees and getting them set up in classrooms to wait out Hurricanes Idalia and Milton.

LIS 6409 Intro to Library Admin

For our module 7 discussion on leadership and ethics, I had to answer how I would handle difficult scenarios in a library setting. For me, being a leader means treating others with courtesy and keeping one's biased opinions in check.
